We meet at our UDC Cycling Center in Los Altos at 9:00 AM. After a brief meeting and bike adjustments, we take you over Kings Mountain, one of the most popular climbs in the area, then down Tunitas Creek Road to the coast, and finally north to Half Moon Bay (about 40 miles). Your destination is the Beach House Half Moon Bay, at the water's edge. For our guided trips, dinner is next door at Sam's Chowder house, a famous seafood restaurant where you can dine on the patio as the Sun sets into the Pacific. I recommend the ahi poke appetizer, really yummy.
Our ride for the dayis a variation of the local "coastal classic" route -a loop the explores the coast and the quieter roads that lead inland. The 54-mile loop travels through the rolling hills and into the redwoods of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Dinner tonight will be at one of the fine Half Moon Bay restaurants.
Today our ride takes you farther down the coast to the inviting small town of Pescadero, then inland through some of the quietest and most picturesque roads in the area, back to the summit of the Santa Cruz Mountains. Then hold on for a thrilling descent on La Honda Road (watch your speed into the hairpin turns!), followed by a relaxing spin back to the UDC Cycling Center. Once back at the center, you can take advantage of our bathroom with showers to clean up and change.
Our three day Sonoma tour was the perfect way to celebrate our anniversary. It was a treat to have our bikes ready to ride each morning. The riding routes were fantastic. The hotel was just right, and the food delicious. Best of all, our tour guides, Darryl and Laura worked together to make the experience unique and fitting for each person in our group.
