Our home for the entire Kiss of Death is the J Marklee Toll Station, a relaxing and unpretentious motel in the heart of Markleeville.
The owner of the Toll Station, Sandy Matlock, is there to make us all feel at home. The rooms are clean, comfortable and quiet, and every room has a private bath. Our guests like to relax and socialize outside their rooms after a long day’s ride. Sandy is there every morning to serve us breakfast to order, and on on some trips she has hosted a private barbecue for us.
My wife and I just returned yesterday from a weekend (3 day) tour and it was outstanding! The rides included great historical attractions as well as breath taking vistas and overlooks. We thoroughly toured San Francisco proper, the Golden Gate Park, the Presidio and traversed The Golden Gate bridge. We also saw seaside villages and redwoods on our way up to Mt. Tamapalis. The Marin Headlands were breathtaking, literally! The trip was tailored by Terry (owner) and further refined by our outstanding guide, Mike. My wife and I are "flatlanders" and not the greatest climbers, so one day our guide spontaneously altered a ride to make our day more enjoyable. The accommodations were luxurious and the restaurants were world class (Michelin rated). The Scott and Felt bikes were expertly fit and worked flawlessly. These bikes are better than our own equipment. I couldn't imagine how the trip could have been better. Our guide was patient, knowledgeable, and at the end our our trip we felt like we had made a great friend. I hope that Undiscovered Tours becomes "discovered" because Terry and his staff have worked hard and thought out every detail to make great riding experiences for everyone.
