Just a short drive from the bustling San Francisco Bay Area, Monterey County encompasses some of California’s most stunning scenery while offering world-renowned recreation.
From the dramatic Big Sur coastline to romantic Carmel and Pebble beach to historic Monterey waterfront, to the hidden wine country of Carmel Valley, the area serves up a delight of scenery from the saddle of a bicycle.
We begin our 4-day bike tour at the famous Cannery Row of Monterey, riding from there into the unhurried Carmel Valley, resting between the coastal Santa Lucia Range of the Ventana Wilderness and the oak studded Sierra de Salinas Range. Carmel Valley is a cyclist's secret getaway: just a few short miles from the attractions of the coast but tiny and unhurried to provide the ideal setting for some relaxing rides on nearly empty roads. From this tranquil base in Carmel Valley, we take daily rides through the region: Carmel Valley, Monterey, Pacific Grove, Pebble Beach, Carmel-by-the-Sea, Fort Ord, and the Monterey Coastal Trail.
We just returned from the UDC Wine Country Tour, our first biking tour vacation, and we are already planning our next trip with UDC! Our guides, Daryl and Laura were friendly, helpful and encouraging to all the bikers from experienced to beginner. I went with high expectations after reading previous reviews and the itinerary, but my experience far outweighed even those high expectations. The organization, the daily routes, riding to our hearts desire, spectacular views, splendid accommodations and the endless amount of delicious food and a chance to meet new, friendly bike enthusiasts have given us the memories of a great biking vacation. Thank you UDC, Daryl and Laura...you two are the best!!!
