My wife and I chose the 3-day Wine Country and Sonoma Coast tour. I would highly recommend it for anyone that might enjoy a nice mix of road biking, wine tasting, and soaking in gorgeous terrain.
There were a total of eleven people on our tour, and we had two guides - Laura and Daryl - who were just great. They had all of the bikes ready to go each morning, and the bikes were set up based on the measurements that each person had sent in beforehand (based on their own bike from home). The bikes were super nice, full carbon.
Each morning we got together for breakfast, got route sheets and talked about the potential add-ons for those that wanted more mileage. You go at your own pace, so at times we were a group, and at other times folks or couples took off on their own. We'd re-group for a snack and also then for lunch. The highlight for me was the grueling Sweetwater climb on day 2. This was an optional segment; the others chose the flat route, so I got my own person guide (Daryl) on Sweetwater. I actually flatted prior to the climb. Probably could have fixed it myself with the tube and CO2 provided in my bag, but let Daryl handle it - what the heck, I'm on vacation!
Bottom line, the rides are beautiful - lots of redwoods, rolling vineyards, and shady creekside roads. The most beautiful stretch is the 10 miles of coastline on day 3. We will definitely be looking for another UDC Tour in the future.

Note: The same amazingly great road bikes we use on our tours are now available for bike rental in the San Francisco Bay Area.
All of our tours include the use of a premium road bicycle at no extra charge. The essence of our tour experience is the pure joy of riding light and fast road bikes, so we provide only the lightest and highest quality road bikes in the bike tour industry. Each bike has a full carbon frame and high end Shimano Ultegra components—equally appropriate on a century event ride, a fast training ride, or a local race.
The bikes are made by Cannondale and Specialized. Frames and forks are made of lightweight carbon fiber, stiff for efficient energy transfer yet compliant to soak up road vibration. Gearing was selected to handle the California hills, with a compact double crankset and a wide range cassette.
We carry a complete range of frame sizes, from 44 cm to 63 cm, so just about any adult will fit on our bikes.
Riding one of our great road bikes is a true pleasure–made even more enjoyable when that bike fits you correctly. That’s why we custom fit a bike for you before your trip begins. For our road bikes, you are welcome to send us your fit measurements, or we’ll use average measurements for your height. We mount the pedal style of your choice, or you can bring your own pedals (we have 16 types of pedals to choose from). If you bring your own saddle, we mount that for you at the start of the trip.
